Experience The Waters: Fishing In Central America Any adventurer heading to the gorgeous shores of Central America is spoilt for choice as far as activities are concerned. The excitement of surfing, the white knuckle thrills of white water rafting and the sheer exhilaration of hiking up volcanoes all sound so tempting, but no adventure in the region is complete without a fishing trip!

Any fisherman will wax lyrical about the sheer wonder of pitting wits and strength against the fish. Competing with nature is always an exhilarating experience, and the stunning views always help in between getting a bite!

The Central American waters are some of the best in the world for a huge variety of species of fish and the amount of world-class lodges just goes to prove it. You can choose to spend days or weeks fishing in Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala and Panama. Inland or offshore, the choice is yours. It is, after all, your adventure!

Hire a boat from the port of Quepos on Costa Rica if you truly relish a competition! Get an early start at 6am and fish for tuna, wahoo, dorado and jack, but nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the giant tarpon that call these waters home. Reeling in a 100lb tarpon, should you be lucky and patient enough to catch one, will make your arms beg for mercy, your rod threaten to snap in half and you scream in frustration. It is truly a gargantuan battle that requires sheer force of will to win. Do you thin you're man enough?

If you're in Guatemala, hire a boat from Marina Pez Vela and sail out for your next battle against the ocean. Sailfish and billfish are ripe for the catch all year round and bite well, but the main season is November until May. If you love a challenge, just see how many fish you can catch during the course of a day! Fishing in these waters is truly an adventure and getting bite after bite is an awesome feeling.

If you want a different kind of fishing experience from your adventure, try Panama where the locals will teach you how to manually fish in the rivers! This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially in the more remote locations like Isla Coiba. You'll find a range of fish inland, including snapper, grouper, pompano, mackerel and jack, so you can really pit your wits against them!

Fishing can be a truly memorable experience and enhance your adventure no end. It is fun, and the natural beauty surrounding you will just add to the experience. If you are competitive, then this is definitely the activity for you!
