Backpacking Gear : Your Quick Essential Guide

Backpacking Gear - Could you ever imagine an intrepid adventurer hauling a suitcase behind you whilst travelling through the wilderness? Didn't think so, but you'd be astonished to know that over half of all adventurers embarking on their first journey into the unknown over-pack. Travelling is supposed to be exciting, fun and enlightening, but taking too much stuff would definitely dampen your mood.
Any experienced adventurer will tell you that the freedom and independence that comes with venturing into unknown territory makes it absolutely necessary to travel with the bear essentials. Adventuring is unpredictable and it may be that you leave one area for another on a whim. You don't want to have to spend hours packing up your belongings as well as carrying the excess weight.
Research the environment you intend to visit before you go. In Central America the likelihood is that it will be warm so light clothing is all you will need. Are there other considerations too? What activities will you participate in? What hazards are there? Where do you intend to stay?
The most important gear you'll need is good boots. Make sure that you have a pair of waterproof hiking boots that are comfortable and fit perfectly. You want to spring from adventure to adventure, not mope your way through because your feet are killing you! Never take more than two pairs of shoes with you because of the weight factor. You will need a change of clothes for warm weather and one for cooler or wet weather. Keep in mind waterproofing for any jungle or rain-forest treks.
A few shirts, couple of pairs of pants, shorts, swimwear and three pairs of underwear should be all you need. Depending on how long you plan on being away – try and avoid taking more than four of any item. Obviously, if you have specialist interests, (like surfing) then you may need other clothing or equipment too.
There are other essentials that you will need for your journey. Assuming that you'll be staying in hostels, you may not need camping gear. However, you will need items like a Swiss army knife, insect repellent, sunscreen, safety pins and a first aid kit. You never know what may happen so make like a Boy Scout and be prepared!
Travelling can yield such pleasure and excitement, infinitely enhancing your life, but small things can prove to be a fly in the ointment. Go well prepared and make sure that your backpacking gear is NOT one of your problems!
