Never boated in these waters, pirates, drug runners, no nautical maps, not experienced boaters, middle of hurricane season. On a boat where we had less then 4 hours experience. The boat - a Zodiac - 19' Medline 11, 150 hp Yamaha. A patch let loose with a 6 inch cut in the tube. On unloading the Zodiac the rail on the trailer breaks we pull part of the tube away from the hull. We then hit a storm in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. We hit San Carlos at 5:30pm The military is not letting anyone down the Rio San Juan after 5:00pm. No headlights. Intermittent running lights. Hour and half down river is Sabados Lodge. Where our first night's booking was made. We convinced the military to let us go. In 10 minutes darkness hits. Cloud covered sky no moon. Navigation down an unknown river (unknown by us) by flashlight. I think whether we were stupid or not is totally a matter of perception. We wanted an adventure. A tiny bit of a challenge... |
